Talk to Engels

The Idea

On the occasion of Friedrich Engels’ 200th birthday, scholars and researchers around the world planned wide commemorations to remember and review his eminent spirit and achievements. German-speaking scholars also have a lot to share about Friedrich Engels. In the meantime, most of the work of the second Marx-Engels-Gesamtausgabe has been completed under the direction of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. MEGA2 particularly gives us important new insights into the life, time and work of Friedrich Engels.

Numerous conferences on Friedrich Engels were planned in Germany for 2020. Unfortunately, because of Covid-19, most of them have been cancelled or were held with the absence of planned Chinese speakers – e.g. the congress at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal.

The Online Forum „Talk to Engels“ is organized to fill in the regrettable gap.

The forum is initiated by the historian Eberhard Illner and the labor law expert Stefan Strassner
